SOUTER GIVEN SPECIAL PROTECTION
AGAINST HIS OWN RULING
I'm glad that a different type of people inhabited America in 1776 than do today. They knew when rebellion was called for and they weren't afraid to have one. They could see the connection between smashing boxes of tea and countering the oppressive power of their British overlords. Such was not the case in Weare, New Hampshire on Election Day 2006.
A little over eight months prior five members of the U.S. Supreme Court destroyed our property rights by giving the green light to property takings for commercial development. I advocated using that ruling to commercially develop the land of one of those justices, David Souter, in a project called the Lost Liberty Hotel.
One hundred and ninety Weare voters signed a petition to this end while only twenty five were needed. Two candidates ran for town council as supporters of the project. The story was picked up by media across the nation and around the world. The issue of eminent domain abuse was now at the top of the news.
But simple minded politicians in Weare ignored the purpose of the project (to end eminent domain abuse) and made it an "us versus them" contest. Then ABC Nightline producer Dan Morris ran a story that was absurdly biased against the project. Later, Souter's friends changed the wording of the petition in a committee meeting a month before the election. And finally Kathy McCormack of the Associated Press wrote an article that was distributed to newspapers nationwide that implied that the town had voted the project down in February while the election was not until March 14. As if this wasn't enough Ms. McCormack then released an article about the March 14 election hours before the voting even started! Her central point was that the election didn't matter since it wouldn't affect the outcome of the project. More error and bias on her part. If Keith and Joshua were elected the town board would then have 2 out of 5 members who support the project. If another supporter was elected one year later pro- project board members would then be in the majority and the project could begin.
So, I regret to inform all those across America who supported this project that both pro-LLH candidates, Joshua Solomon and Keith Lacasse lost in their bid to become members of the Weare, New Hampshire Board of Selectmen (Town Council). The vote count was: Clow 955, Methot 853, Lacasse 452, Bohlin 354, Solomon 284. The top two vote-getters became Selectmen.
Worse yet, the voters passed initiative 48, the re-worded version of our original petition, which says "Shall the town ask its selectmen not to use their Eminent Domain powers to take David Souter's home for an inn. . ." It seems that David Souter may now be the only person in America protected from his own ruling.
Both Joshua and Keith fought hard to win. They did their best to stop -the petition from being sabotaged. They held their ground in a debate with t-he other candidates when it seemed that the moderator had singled them out for a beating. They wrote letters to the editor, posted campaign signs all over town and stood for hours in the cold on Election Day. They are the type of people our founding fathers would be proud of.
But contemporary politicians and the mainstream media undermined our first attempt to fight back against eminent domain. However, the war isn't over. There are many battles ahead and I'll be filming them for my movie. This newsletter will provide updates on the movie's progress down the production trail. The path is long one as it involves financing, research, filming, editing, sales to distributors, promotion and finally one day...screening at a theatre near you.
For now I ask that you do just one thing.

BANK REFUSES TO LEND TO EMINENT DOMAIN ABUSERS
Arlington, Va.-BB&T, the nation’s ninth largest financial holdings company with $109.2 billion in assets, announced today that it “will not lend to commercial developers that plan to build condominiums, shopping malls and other private projects on land taken from private citizens by government entities using eminent domain.”
In a press release issued today by the bank, BB&T Chairman and Chief Executive Officer John Allison, said, “The idea that a citizen’s property can be taken by the government solely for private use is extremely misguided, in fact it’s just plain wrong. One of the most basic rights of every citizen is to keep what they own. As an institution dedicated to helping our clients achieve economic success and financial security, we won’t help any entity or company that would undermine that mission and threaten the hard-earned American dream of property ownership.”
Like Logan Darrow Clements, John Allison is also a fan of the philosophy of Objectivism which was discovered and systematized by Ayn Rand, author of Atlas Shrugged, The Fountainhead, Capitalism: The Unknown Ideal, The Virtue of Selfishness and many other fiction and non-fiction works. More information about Objectivism can be found via one of the two competing Objectivist organizations: The Ayn Rand Institute and The Objectivist Center

A MOVIE ABOUT THE LOST LIBERTY HOTEL AND EMINENT DOMAIN ABUSE
Freestar is currently producing a documentary movie for $350K about the Lost Liberty Hotel project as a creative response to the global problem of eminent domain abuse. The style will be similar to "Super Size Me" which was produced for an estimated $300K and grossed over $28 million worldwide. In addition to generating a profit, the film will help keep the issue alive until judges and legislators act to restain the wildfire of eminent domain abuse.

READ LOGAN'S "WILDFIRE SPEECH"
"This is a story about the never-ending struggle between freedom and force, between the individual and the state, between principle and power."
"I would love to send Supreme Court Justices Stevens, Kennedy, Ginsburg, Breyer and Souter on a one year tour of Zimbabwe, Cuba and North Korea. In these countries they can learn what sort of economic development results when property rights are destroyed."

1,418 PEOPLE PLEDGE TO STAY IN HOTEL FOR ONE WEEK
Economic benefits to the citythis is the new standard by which you can lose your home according to David Souter and the four Supreme Court justices who voted for the Kelo vs. City of New London decision. Well if that's the standard then thousands of Americans have indicated that they want to provide economic benefits to Mr. Souter's home town by staying in the Lost Liberty Hotel for one week. To view the list visit http://www.pledgebank.com/LostLibHotel
THE NUMBERS SAY WE CAN WIN: 25932777
Some people believe this project is politically impossible. Let's look at the numbers. An initiative can be placed on the Weare, NH March 2006 ballot with only 25 signatures. A University of New Hampshire poll found that 93% of New Hampshire residents are opposed to the Kelo decision. The Town of Weare has 5,552 registered voters. If all registered voters show up to vote in March, the initiative can pass with as few as 2,777 votes. In the last election only 2038 people voted. With this turn-out the initiative could pass with as few as 1,020 votes.

WEARE RESIDENTS START BALLOT INITIATIVE DRIVE
Early Friday, July 22 Logan Darrow Clements sent a letter to all five Selectmen in the Town of Weare asking them whether he should spend the time and money to develop a presentation of the Lost Liberty Hotel project. If the Selectmen already decided that they will oppose the project no matter what form it takes, or what benefit it offers, then there would be no point in making a presentation. Here are the letters that were sent back and forth between Freestar and Selectman Joe Fiala.
What Mr. Fiala misunderstands in the position that he and other other Board members are taking is that, in shielding Mr. Souter from from his own ruling, the Board is not defending property rights, they are giving a special exemption to Mr. Souter from the consequences of the eminent domain abuse set loose by Mr. Souter himself. After the Kelo decision we are all subject to lose our homes to economic development. However, the Board seems to think that Mr. Souter should be shielded from the outcome of his own decision. Susette Kelo did not enjoy such a shield nor did Ahmad Mesdaq. Equal justice under the law is a principle the Board should abide by in this matter. Souter's high position should not allow him the privilege to be exempt from his own rulings.
In response to the opposition to the project by the Town government, local Weare residents are preparing a ballot initiative which would accomplish the goals of the project. Such an initiative could be placed on the ballot with as few as 25 signatures.

The Lost Liberty Hotel
On Monday June 27, 2005 Freestar Media, LLC informed the Towne of Weare, New Hampshire that it wants to begin the permit process to build a hotel on the land owned by U.S. Supreme Court Justice David H. Souter. Mr. Souter was one of five justices who voted in the "Kelo vs. City of New London" decision to allow city governments to take land from one private owner and give it to another if the government believes it will generate greater tax revenue or other economic benefits when the land is developed by the new owner.
This is where we would like to build our hotel. Click on photos to enlarge.

WHAT DOES FREESTAR STAND FOR?
The Hotel Lost Liberty project has gained the support of everyone from conservatives and liberals
to libertarians and objectivists. Freestar itself is powered by the Objectivist philosophy outlined in
Ayn Rand's ground-breaking novel Atlas Shrugged. The ideas that Ayn Rand outlined are essential to prevent America from plunging deeper into statism. Better yet these ideas could ignite a second renaissance in the world at large. This would be a world marked by maximum freedom, unbelievable economic prosperity and remarkable scientific advancement.

INTERNET VIDEOS> MOVIES> WEEKLY TV NEWSMAGAZINE
Freestar's ultimate goal is to produce a weekly television newsmagazine syndicated across North America and around the world. Our intermediate goal is to make a feature length documentary movie for theatrical distribution about eminent domain abuse and the Lost Liberty Hotel as a response to it. Until we locate investors for the movie and TV series Freestar will make Internet videos. Your company can advertise on one of the these videos for only $4,000. Steven's Creek Porsche sponsored "Monkey Beats Social Security" (see their ad at the end) but the other five videos need sponsors. Contact us to advertise on one of the videos or sponsor us to cover a new topic that fits within our our topic. Your advertising could help Freestar become "the infrastructure for a freedom revolution."
